Ciprofloxacin 0.3% Ophthalmic Solution, 5 mL, is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections. It is primarily indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. Ciprofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase, an essential enzyme required for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, leading to bacterial cell death. This mechanism ensures broad-spectrum coverage against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

The ophthalmic solution is formulated for topical application to the eye and is typically administered every 2 hours for the first two days, followed by a reduced dosing frequency as directed. The sterile, isotonic formulation minimizes irritation while maximizing absorption into ocular tissues.

Potential adverse effects include temporary burning, stinging, redness, or discomfort at the application site. Prolonged use may result in fungal or secondary bacterial infections.
